SONIC Project Presented at Cedarcrypt 2026 in Cyprus

SONIC at the Cedarcrypt 2026

The SONIC project was presented at the Cedarcrypt Applied Cryptography Summer School & Conference (Cedarcrypt 2026), held in Paphos, Cyprus, from July 13–16, 2026.

Our partner Alexandros Hasikos from ELECTI delivered a technical presentation on the SONIC project during the event’s dedicated lightning talks session. Hosted at the American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo) campus, Cedarcrypt 2026 is a major regional initiative designed to bring together graduate students, early-career researchers, and seasoned practitioners to foster collaboration and advance education in applied cryptography.

Addressing Key IoT Vulnerabilities

The presentation outlined SONIC’s strategic objectives in addressing the multilayered security vulnerabilities inherent in modern Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystems. Insecure cryptographic algorithms and unaddressed security gaps in the manufacturing supply chain present major risks to modern networks. By presenting at Cedarcrypt, the SONIC project highlighted how its upcoming operational marketplace for intelligent cybersecurity tools can mitigate these threats.

The discussion centered on several of the project’s core focus areas:

✔️Supply Chain Security: Identifying and mitigating security gaps that arise during the IoT device manufacturing and deployment stages.

✔️Cryptographic Resilience: Implementing self-defending mechanisms and secure cryptographic primitives within highly resource-constrained IoT environments.

✔️Intelligent Cybersecurity Tools: Showcasing how the project’s marketplace aims to make cutting-edge, automated security tools accessible to both industrial and consumer-facing technology sectors.

Fostering Regional Collaboration

Cedarcrypt’s program, which features a pedagogical progression from cryptographic foundations to advanced, hands-on implementations, provided an ideal venue for the SONIC project to share its technical insights. By participating in these academic and industrial exchanges, the SONIC consortium continues to support the development of cybersecurity expertise and the deployment of robust cryptographic practices across Europe and the wider Mediterranean region.

This presentation aligns with SONIC’s commitment to active dissemination, ensuring that our progress toward building more resilient, self-defending digital environments is shared with key scientific and industrial stakeholders.
